Registration/Licensing Forms, Fees, and Payment Methods

The CDHNS licence year runs from November 1 to October 31. Practising licences expire on October 31 of each year. CDHNS registrants must renew their practising licence and pay the required fees each year. 

Below is information for new and reinstating applicants, including links to the appropriate application forms, the fees, and payment method options.

We protect your information: Application files are confidential. Information can only be provided directly to the applicant. Applicants must provide the CDHNS with written authorization before information will be released to a third-party, including employers, spouses, or an agency.

(A) New Applicants (First Time Registrants)

Registration is available online. Start by submitting Part 1 of the Application for Registration (completing a Registrant Profile)

Please note: During the months of Sept/Oct, we ask you to carefully consider if you plan on applying for the licensing year that ends on October 31, OR for the upcoming renewal year that begins on Nov 1. You will be asked by staff to clarify your intent after an application is received. The full licensing fee is due regardless of when you are issued a practising licence during the year. 

TIMEFRAMES FOR PROCESSING APPLICATIONS (Initial and Reinstatement/Re-Licensing): 

Applications are processed in the order in which they are completed. We do our best to process all applications in a timely manner. Typically, applications take about 4-6 weeks to be completed and for individuals to be placed on the CDHNS Register and issued a practising licence. This timing depends on the length of time it takes the applicant to provide all of the necessary documentation and fees. During busier times, e.g., renewals and when multiple new graduates apply, this time frame may be extended. Please inform potential employers of this time frame, so that they can schedule your anticipated start date accordingly. 

(B) Reinstating/Re-Licensing (Previously Registered/Licenced with the CDHNS)

For individuals requesting reinstatement or re-licensing after your licence has expired, do not submit an Application for Registration.

Once you are given access, you will be able to submit the correct form through the Portal i.e., application for reinstatement. You will be provided with a customized checklist after you submit your reinstatement application and the application fee payment.

To assist you in your preparations, we are providing you with the generic CDHNS Reinstatement Application Checklist. Again, not all of these requirements may apply to you, and your situation.    

If you last practiced dental hygiene in Nova Scotia prior to May 15, 2009, you were never registered with the CDHNS. You are considered a new applicant. Please submit an Application for Registration. 

Verification of Registration/Licensing (often called "Letters of Good Standing") from the CDHNS can be requested through your Registrant Profile. Log onto your Registrant profile and submit a request for a Verification of Registration/Licensing to be sent. 

(C) Fees

(D) Payment Methods

When you submit any application form, (e.g., application for registration, renewal, or transfer from non-practising to practising), you will be informed about the accepted methods of payment. For all applications, we accept certified cheques or money orders, e-transfers, and credit card payments. When you generate an invoice, it will include further details on how to complete the methods of payment. 

We accept credit card payment through Plastiq.

Using Plastiq, a third-party service provider, you can pay with MasterCard, Visa or American Express:

To ensure you are appropriately credited, you will be required to include the following information:

  • The first name and last name of the individual who submitted the application form.
    • This must match the name on the initial application (if this payment is for a first time applicant) or the name of the CDHNS registrant as it is entered in the CDHNS database.
  • The Invoice number that will be generated following submission of your application.

Please note that payments may take 3-5 business days to process and that a Plastiq service fee will be applied (2.5% for credit cards, 1% for debit cards).
